5/5

From the last two reviews, it seems like I am going to be an extreme reviewer, like the ones on trip advisor who give everything one star or five, either glowing with happiness or seething with rage. But this was just chance that I happened to pick up a brilliant book after gleefully throwing aside a terrible one. You will just have to trust me on that account. There are some mediocre, run of the mill reviews coming your way as well.
The Elephant Whisperer is the true story of a man, Lawrence, who runs a nature reserve in KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa called Thula Thula. His goal is to have the animals be completely wild and give tourists/conservationists the chance to see these animals in a natural habitat. At the beginning of the book, he is asked to take on a herd of misbehaving wild elephants. Not an easy task. He discovers that these elephants have been woefully mistreated and brings them to his reserve to try and create a better home for them. In doing so, he creates the most magical bond with the matriarch of herd, Nana. Not only is this story incredibly unique, the book is brilliantly written. Anthony's tale is absolutely heart breaking in parts, will make you laugh out loud, but most of all gets you completely hooked on the incredible story of these magestical creatures. Go and read it right now. Right now. But really, put down whatever you are currently reading/watching. You will learn so much and it will warm the cockles of your heart.
